Rocking For God

Last night was something. Euphonious is back, and once again, Seven Sweet Surrender (Christon, Javier, Mei Le, Witton, Augustine, and Richard – ya ya, I know there’s only six of them, which is why I’m there! Waha! Just kidding, I only tumpang photo lah) got their chance to showcase what they have. They did really good, for once I saw Richard singing and moving at the same time! Christon was praised for being the best drummer of the night (he was so energetic I was sure he could run a 100km marathon) and Mei Le, though it was her first time on stage, she was also noticed by the judges in a complimenting way.
But last night, I also learned a lesson.
And it began the moment they played their first key. They used “Mengejar HadirMu” as the sound check song, and immediately, I realized one thing: they’re up there for a different reason.
Sure, “Catch Your Wave” was very erm…catchy, and they did a very nice slow version of it towards the end that got a lot of girls (including the entire band of Excuse Me) rooting for them.
But the song that stole the thunder that night was “Gone”. The band was just giving their all to send a message across to the audience. When I saw Richard just calling from the top of his lungs “Life is more than money… Time was never money… Time was never cash… Life is still more than girls… Life is more than hundred dollar bills…etc..” I was thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis close *puts thumb and forefinger real close to each other* to standing up and cheering. I didn’t because I was sitting in the front row and it would be total awkwardness to do so. Oh, and I’m committee ma…cannot bias. And I also noticed that the crowd was beginning to warm up to them too.
When I watched the video of their performance last year, I couldn’t help but laugh. They were so…green then. So new, so unready. But enthusiastic nonetheless. And this year, I see a group of people who are clear of their purpose when they strike a chord or sing a note.
It was awesome.
This has become more than just a competition. If you wanna talk about winners, I’d say you’re already winners, winners for God, winners for our Lord, our Saviour. That’s the kind of winners we’re talking about.
It doesn’t have to be music. Each and everyone in the church has an important role to play. Getting people to church on time, taking care of the welfare of church members, encouraging one another… we’re the pieces that complete God’s masterplan.
Just as Seven Sweet Surrender’s supposed final’s entry would sing, “We are meant to live for so much more.”
So true. And we’re all very, very proud of each and everyone of you.
So let’s gather our best instruments and just keep rocking for Him!
1 Corinthians 15:58: “Therefore my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
Gosh…i totally agree with u vern!!! I believe those who went and supported them would’ve given their two-thumbs-up for them!
The main purpose that the Seven Sweet Surrender is on stage never leave my mind..All the glory to God that THEY never forgotten their purpose of being on stage as well!
Even as they practise consistently and really doing their best despite having quizzes and test or being late for class (ooops!), all they wanted to do is to strike towards perfection, wanting to show to the rest how God works in them. Even as they practise, they never forget to commit everything that they do to God in prayer. Even just as a spectator, I find it really touching n encouraging.
Actually..today i’ve been listening and watching the video i recorded on their performance over n over again…I juz felt so proud of each and everyone of them for their heart and passion for our Lord!
Yup vern, we should really get our best instruments and keep on rocking for Him!
wah….
~quickly grabs tissue and dabs eyes~
and also, about that photo…
for some odd reason, my trademark “weird” look didn’t work..
haih xP
i can’t wait to grab hold of any recording for that night.
Good team work everyone. =)
What a night, what a night that was. I think it’s one of those things that’s going to stick in my mind for a long time to come. For myself, being part of the band, the whole process of discussing, practicing and finally performing really means a lot. It was an experience where I was with people that wanted to have fun, wanted to do something great, but more importantly, do something with a higher purpose than ourselves. That was what got me going, what made me believe that we were going to do something good that night.
Before going on stage, I’m not sure how many times we prayed, but it just showed how much zeal we had to do something right for God in the midst of people who don’t know Him. When we went up there, I believe we just gave it our all, I’m not quite sure if I gave 100 percent, but I just gave what I had, and looking at the video, I believe all of us did too, and I hope that God’s just pleased with what we’ve done, hopefully we’ll get more chances to play for our creator to touch the lives of people around us.
WITTON!!! WITTON!!! DAMN U MADE ME PROUD!
