Among the six best friends, What, When, How, Why, Who and Where, I think the most mysterious would be Why, coming close in terms of popularity to What. Because Why alone never has a definite answer, and has many possibilities.
The few common questions where Why comes in for the few of us for the past couple of weeks would be,
Why did he erase my homework?
Why aren’t my group members helping me out?
Why did he/she pass away?
Why am I the one facing such problems?
And possibly our favourite when things seem out of hand,
Why is this happening?!
It gets very frustrating when you know that some answers aren’t found in textbooks. You don’t have an Appendix where you can refer to every single detail of the events that happen in your life. Then we begin to question higher authority. Either you bow down and pray or you just look straight up and yell, “God, WHY?”
Even though we sometimes wish He’d answer us on the spot, say, a loud, apparent voice calling out from the sky, I think if that really happened we’d all freak out and start to question our sanity of hearing voices.
It’s normal. It’s very normal to question, because we’re curious beings. If we weren’t curious, we would all still be rejoicing stark-naked in the Garden of Eden and see God face to face every day.
If you think carefully, you’d realize that most of the Why’s are generated from sad, bad, and unlucky events. Do you question why when you’ve obtained good results for your tests? Do you ask why when the weather’s good?
No. Because we don’t see the need to. Because there’s nothing to solve, or to correct.
That is how we plunge into a deep mode of negativity when things go wrong. We think that God isn’t there, He’s missed out on some of our prayer points, or He’s too busy with someone else. Or maybe He’s just playing a game that you don’t think is funny.
But here’s an awesome truth: God hangs tight with us all the way.
Maybe it’s because of His faithfulness we like to blame Him when bad things happen. Because He’s supposed to know everything right? He’s supposed to protect us, love us, keep us safe. So why is He messing around with us?
God messes around with no one.
When bad things happen God wants to work through us, through our helpful actions. He also wants to remind us that in all we do, we have to rely on Him. So that each time we comfort those who mourn, we thank Him for giving us the courage and strength to support others. So that we turn to Him when we face problems, and thank Him when the problem has been solved. So that we can share our testimonies with those around us, to encourage them to take a closer path to Him.
So that each day that we’re still breathing, we thank Him for life.
In 1 Corinthians 10:13 it says, “But God is faithful, and he will not let YOU be tempted beyond what YOU can bear, but along with the temptation he will also make the way out in order for YOU to be able to endure it.”
So when huge temptations come our way, know that it is because we are stronger than we think. With Him, we are so much stronger.
So back to the question: Why is this happening?!
John 9:3 says, “This happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.”
That is the Why we have to believe in.
P/S: We’re nearing the end of the semester now, pressure and stress will be knocking on our doors again. And it doesn’t help when some things turn out awry. But let’s keep our spirits up, do what we can and bring to Him what we can’t, okay?

I think that just explained the entire James 1: 2-18 very well. =)
Yeah, we’ll all move forward together, picking each other up along the way, trusting Him always.

Wern, you are very much right. We wont question ‘why’ when we have good result but we will do so when it is otherwise. Bro and sis, let us continue to support each other when we see our bro or sis face with touch circumstances. keep them in prayer, encourage them and may God strengthen them.
I like this verse very much. Galatians 6:2 “Bear one another’s burden, and in this way you’ll fulfill the law of Christ” Let’s us support and encourage each other in Christ ministry, no matter in Praise & Worship, Mandarin or English care group. Be the salt and light for Him!
Tests and projects deadline are coming up,all the best! May God bless you all!

hmm
i normally ask “How come???”
but that’s Why’s cousin
haha
don’t mean to brag but i already know the answer to why “bad” things happen, but it’s such a great encouragement to see that everyone else knows it too

“How come” is like a Made-In-China product of Why. Reversed engineering.
I know you already know Javier, I’ve seen it on your gtalk display message before. But it’s for all to share, innit?

Once i asked my sis MeiYee, “Aren’t u angry with God He gave u rheumatoid athritis?”(sis is cheerful about it all). She replied, “i believe that He wants me to show to others His strength in me. i’ll live everyday with a smile and remain faithful to Him so that I can encourage others too.”
Vern’s blog reminded me about this conversation i had with my sis. God is faithful, He wouldn’t let my sis bear what she cannot endure, turns out that she’s a tough rock after all. =)
I’m not sure about myself though. Brothers and sisters, if i were to slip, pls remind me :
_God hangs tight with us all the way._
_God messes around with no one_

He’s always around, isn’t he? Praise God. =)

This is something that I read form an online devotion newsletter.
“It’s not a sin to not know everything. We should not feel like
we must have an answer for every question.
God even said there are some things that are secret.
DEUTERONOMY 29:29 NKJ
29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those
things which are revealed belong to us and to our children
forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
God also indicates there are things in His Word we will only
see if we search diligently and work at it, like we were
digging for silver (Proverbs 2:1-7).”
So, we all need to remain humble. Humility always accompanies
wisdom. Only in that, we learn to be submissive and avoid asking why…
