Following Him

Hello everyone! I’ve never really actively posted on this site. I’ve only been constantly checking to see if someone else has. Hence, I’ve decided to put something of my own here.

I just wanted to share something that’s related to my devotional experience over the last couple of weeks. After lending my picture bible to Wei Han a few weeks ago, I began to remember some of the stories in there that I used to love so much as a kid. I wanted to revive that memory and remind myself of how God was there for His people, even before the arrival of Jesus on our very dear planet.

The story of Moses, Joshua and King David have always interested me since I read about them as a small boy. It’s pretty amazing if you sit down and read through the feats of these great men of God. I’ve always found it interesting how God chooses the people he wants to do His will. If you look at Moses, sure, he was a prince in Egypt, but soon had to run away, and even he wasn’t confident to speak when God called him to. David, the youngest boy in his family, even his own father did not expect him to be the one that Samuel would choose to be anointed.

As some of you, would famously recall, God gave Moses a huge task, delivering Israel out of Egypt and into the promised land. Even as Moses told God how weak he was many times (Exodus 3:11, 4:1), God still stuck with him, and plenty of things happened. By God’s power he performed so many miracles and was even able to deliver Israel from the hands of the Egyptians by parting the Red Sea. He continued to grow and eventually became one of Israel’s most remembered leaders. David himself was a young boy, but he had tremendous courage. As a shepherd boy, he killed bears and lions to protect his father’s sheep, and being so passionate for God, he even took up the challenge of bringing down Goliath (1 Samuel 17).

Over time, God called brought these men to be great leaders of the nation of Israel. Moses and David led Israel through many situations, many battles with their enemies. For each and every battle they fought with God, they won. It was a reminder to me of how God will fight for you and win the battle for you each time you have His blessing (Exodus 17:8-15, Joshua 6, 2 Samuel 5:17-25). Every time we go with God, He will always give us the victory. However, sometimes when you disobey God and just continue thinking you can get away with it, God’s favor can leave you too (Joshua 7, Numbers 20: 7-12, 2 Samuel 11-13). Nonetheless, God still loves us, in the same way that he loved Israel despite of their many shortcomings and wants to continue to work through us.

You know, I love how we can read about people in the Old Testament who stood up for God. I believe that it’s all there for us to read and know how God works through people’s lives to be an impact upon the lives of others. In the case of Moses, Joshua and David, it was an entire nation! Each of our lives have a specific purpose, and a special plan for us to impact people in different ways. The process of doing it is important and I believe that these people in the bible such as Moses and King David gives us encouragement. They give encouragement in the truth that as we obey God and begin to have a heart that goes after God’s heart, God will do great things through us.

I hope this encourages you, and I hope you do get to read some of those passages in your time. As you do, you will know there is proof that God has been tried and tested in his faithfulness to His people. Our God is powerful and He wants us to know that. Stay faithful to God, obey His word, and He will surely bring the best out of you as He did in Moses, Joshua and King David.

Well, that’s all. God bless! Have a great week.

Spoken with love,

Christon
